Atz, Julia L. Scholarship Fund

The Julia L. Atz Scholarship will award $2,500 in the fall to a senior (or junior entering their senior year in the fall) in college or a post-graduate student pursuing a career in classical music performance or conducting, and with a college GPA of 3.00 or above.

An applicant can re-apply and receive financial support in ensuing or subsequent years. Preference will be given to applicants from Indiana.

Application period is typically end of November to mid May.
Note: this scholarship is intended to support students during their undergraduate or post-graduate studies and is not available for assistance with expenses after graduation or once you pursue your career.

DONOR STORY

Julia was born into a musical family on September 23, 1923 in Goshen, Indiana. Her parents were Orlin and Eva Shrock and her brother’s name was also Orlin. When she was in the first grade, she was the drum major of the band. She played the piano, organ, and flute, and was also a talented alto singer. In 1941 she graduated from Goshen High School and she started her undergraduate program at Northwestern University but had to finish at Goshen College with a degree in Elementary Music Education, because her mother contracted cancer.
