Dear Student,
Congratulations! This scholarship is intended to help subsidize your college expenses for the school year. As a result, these funds can be used for tax exempt college expenses, excluding housing or transportation.
Special Conditions/Instructions For Scholarships Listed. You must agree to the conditions of your scholarship in your acceptance form. If your college plans change, please contact me at Jennifer@cfnoble.org
Auer – Arthur A. & Hazel S. Auer Scholarship – Awards around $500 per semester in each of the first two years, for a total of $2,000. Student must submit a college transcript via the community foundation’s scholarship platform at the end of Fall Semester (in January), at the end of Spring Semester (in May), and end of Fall Semester (in January). Must attend an accredited college/university.
Bottomley – Peter R. Bottomley Scholarship – Awards $1,000 one-time for undergraduate study only. And pursuing a 4-year degree in instrumental music education or performance.
Campbell – Kris Campbell “Any Dream Will Do” Scholarship – Awards $500 one-time payment for a Prairie Heights High School senior who meets one or both of the following criteria: 1) has been active in his or her high school drama club for at least two years and is preparing to pursue any sort of post-secondary education, 2) has excelled in high school English and will pursue an English or teaching major in college. Payment to be made after proof of enrollment.
Cromwell – Cromwell High School Scholarship – Awards two $1,000 and attend an accredited two-or four-year public or private institution, and /or vocational/technical training and certification programs. Educational expenses only.
Delta – Delta Theta Tau Sorority IOTA IOTA Chapter Scholarship Fund in Memory of Tammi Riecke – For an East Noble High School senior who is pursuing any type of post-secondary education and has worked to promote the advancement of philanthropy and charity for the community. One time award amount to be determined. Typically awards $800 one time.
DeMotte – Richard and Mary DeMotte Scholarship – Awards $400 one-time, must be pursuing a teaching profession.
Duesler – Charles and Bernard Duesler Scholarship – For Central Noble seniors. Awards $2,000, attending Purdue University with preference to those entering the agriculture, consumer, and health services, veterinary, nursing, or pharmacy fields.
Edgell – Edgell Vocational Scholarship – West Noble senior. Awards two $1,000 one-time, must be entering a vocational/associate degree program full-time.
Earley – Benjamin B. and Kathleen June Earley Scholarship – Awards $1,000 one-time and attending Ball State University.
Ellenbecker – Oliver and Eleanor Ellenbecker Scholarships:
Oliver and Eleanor Ellenbecker Education – Awards $3,500 one-time, must be majoring in education to become a teacher.
Oliver and Eleanor Ellenbecker Bachelor’s Program – Awards $3,500 one-time, must be attending a four-year college/university as a full-time student.
Oliver and Eleanor Ellenbecker Medical Profession Scholarship – Awards $3,500 one-time, must be attending an accredited college/university, for a degree in nursing or other medical studies.
Oliver and Eleanor Ellenbecker Previous Award Scholarship – Given to students who previously received a scholarship administered by the Community Foundation of Noble County. The $3,500 scholarship can be used toward any type of full-time post-secondary education and can be applied for until post-secondary graduation. Applicant must have a current grade point average of 2.50 or above on a 4.00 scale.
East Noble Class of 1969 Scholarship – A one-time payment of $750 for an East Noble High School senior entering college for a two- or four-year degree at an Indiana college or university. Preference will be given to students with a GPA of 2.50–3.50 and ranked in the middle of class.
Ferrari – Doris Gene Alber Ferrari Scholarship – Awards two $3,000 one-time, must be attending a four-year college program as a full-time student with the intention of going into the education field.
Fordeck Kemerly – Fordeck Demerly Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Scholarship – For an East Noble High school senior or a prior recipient of the scholarship applying to or accepted at a 4-year college or university to study electrical or mechanical engineering. Applicants must have between a 2.50 – 3.50 GPA with preference going to the higher GPA and maintain a 2.50 – 3.50 GPA if you are a previous winner reapplying for the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of college. Awards $500 one time.
Friesner – Bob and Joyce Friesner Memorial Scholarship – For a West Noble High School senior attending a 4-year accredited college or university as a full-time student with a GPA range 3.00 to 3.80 with preference given to students entering teaching, medical, health science, nursing, school counseling, and/or social work. Awards $1,000 one time.
Frymier – Jack R. And Maxine C. Frymier Scholars Award – Awards $1,200 one-time and must be pursuing a career in the field of education.
Gardner – Prudence E. Memorial Scholarship Fund – For a West Noble High School senior with a GPA of 3.00 to 3.50 who can demonstrate a hard work ethic by holding a part time job or by participating in extracurricular activities.
Glass – Paul Glass Memorial Scholarship – Awards $750 to a student pursuing a career in agriculture or related field. Students can reapply.
Graft – Delbert and LaVon Graft Scholarship – For two East Noble seniors or graduates pursuing a two-year or four-year degree in the fields of consumer and family sciences, agriculture, or finance. Awards $500.
Grigsby – Victoria Grigsby Scholarship – Must be attending a 4-year accredited college/university majoring in any of the physical sciences (biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, etc.) or a branch of engineering (civil, structural, chemical, mechanical, aerospace, etc.), or any other STEM curriculum. You MUST maintain a 3.00 GPA or better and field of study as listed above in the first semester to receive the second payment during the spring semester. A transcript upload required at completion of first semester via the scholarship portal. Awards $5,000 in two payments.
Gutstein – Dr. Richard R. (MD) and Theresa M. Gutstein Memorial Scholarship – Awards $1,000, must be entering the nursing field for a degree. Students in good standing in college who previously won may reapply.
Halferty – Caitlyn Marie Memorial Scholarship Fund – For a well-rounded West Noble High School senior with a GPA of 2.50 to 3.80. Awards $250 one time.
Hayes – Gerald and Catheleen Hayes Scholarship – Awards $500 one-time, must be pursuing a degree from a two-or four-year college/university.
Hornett – Joseph A. and Lolita J. Hornett Memorial Scholarship – Awards $1,000 one-time, must be pursuing a nursing degree for an accredited institution as a freshman or entering the University of Notre Dame as a freshman pursing a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Requires letter written on completion of first year of college experience due to the CFNC by June 1. Check your scholarship dashboard around May/June to submit letter. Students attending Ivy Tech Community College for nursing are not eligible for this scholarship. Payment is made after the first semester and after transcript upload usually in January.
Howard – Art and Jeanne Howard 4-H Scholarship – Awards two $500 one-time, must be pursuing any sort of post-secondary education, full or part time. For tuition only.
Hutsell – Alan Hutsell Scholarship – For a senior (CN, EN, Wawasee, homeschool or WN) pursuing advanced education in emergency services involving fire, police, criminal justice and/or EMS. Preference to WN seniors. One-time payment of about $500.
Ignite Your Future Scholarships:
Scholarships and Grants in the following areas will be offered to Noble County residents.
Bachelor’s Degree: $20,000 per applicant per semester (awards $2,500 per semester for four years) Transcript upload required and GPA of 2.50 or better required prior to each semester payment.
Students who are pursuing a degree in the following fields are eligible:
-Fields related to Engineering and Industrial Technology such as automation engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, industrial engineering, materials engineering, controls engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering design, computer and information technology, automation and systems integration technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, mechatronics, robotics, and industrial informatics
-Technology Education or technology leadership
-Sales or marketing
-Organizational leadership and supervision
-Entrepreneurship
Joest – Brian H. Joest Memorial Scholarship – For a high school senior pursuing a career in teaching special education, speech therapy, exercise science, physical therapy (or assistant), or occupational therapy — and planning to earn a 2-year or 4-year degree. Eligible students may attend Central Noble Jr./Sr. High School, Churubusco Jr./Sr. High School, East Noble High School, Oak Farm Montessori School, or West Noble High School. Preference will be given to students from East Noble High School and prioritized in order of fields listed. Awards $1,000 one time.
Kichler – Tony and Gertrude Kichler Scholarship – Awards $3,500, must be pursuing a college education in music, medicine, or religion.
Kile – David O. Kile and Marjorie B. Kile Scholarship – The David O. Kile and Marjorie B. Kile Scholarship is available to any Noble County resident who is at least 19 years of age with a high school diploma, or GED, in pursuit of higher education in a field of their choice. This scholarship is available to applicants planning to attend, or are currently enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an accredited vocational school, or two-year or four-year college or university. The award is given one time, with no restriction on applying in subsequent years, in the amount of $2,000, for educational purposes only.
Knopp – Cathy S. Knopp Theatrical Scholarship – Awards $750 one-time, must be pursuing a two-or four-year post high school education.
Kretler – Matthias “Matt” and Rosemarie “Rosie” Scholarship For Tool & Die or Mechanical Engineering – An award of up to $1,000 to a high school senior attending Central Noble, East Noble, Oak Farm Montessori, or West Noble high schools, who will be pursuing a full-time college degree in the Tool and Die field as a Machinist/Toolmaker for a 2-year degree or Mechanical Engineering for a 4-year degree. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00. A recipient can re-apply in the following or subsequent years while pursuing their 2-year or 4-year degree, provided they maintain a 3.00 college GPA. Preference will be given to college students who have previously been awarded the scholarship.
Leaman – Pauline (McClish) Leaman Scholarship – For a West Noble High school senior entering a four-year college program to pursue a career in education (teaching), with preference in math. Must have a high school grade point average of 2.00 or above. Pays $1,000 one-time.
Ligonier Elks – Ligonier Elks Scholarship – Two scholarships for a West Noble High School senior pursuing a post-secondary education with preference to a grandchild or great-grandchild, (or stepchild, step grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Ligonier Elk who is a paid-up member. Pays $500 one time.
Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Scholarship – Awards $500 one-time, must be entering a 2-year or 4-year accredited public or private institution of higher learning.
Martin – Timothy J. Martin Memorial Scholarship – Awards $750 one-time, must be pursuing a postsecondary degree in education (to become a teacher).
Murray – Benjamin H. Murray Scholarship – For two East Noble High School seniors who will be pursuing a post-secondary degree. Applicants must have a 2.50 to 3.00 cumulative GPA at the time of application with preference going to a Rome City student and/or has had involvement with East Noble High School archery, basketball or football (manager, trainer or player) in this order. Pays $1,000 one time.
Noble County Memorial Scholarship 1 – In memory of: Kenneth Forker, Chester E. Dekko, Howard G. Heckner, John E. Hogan, Dorothy Mossman, Dave Knopp, Loretta and Christine Noe, Sandra K. Shepherd, Sylvan Springs, Ruthann Richards, Linda L. Speakman-Yerick and William “Wes” Wesley and Amelia Frehse.
For three high school seniors who are residents of Noble County who are pursuing a post high school education with a GPA between 2.50 and 3.70.
Noble County Memorial Scholarship 2 (sports)- In memory of: Kenneth Forker, Chester E. Dekko, Howard G. Heckner, John E. Hogan, Dorothy Mossman, Dave Knopp, Loretta and Christine Noe, Sandra K. Shepherd, Sylvan Springs, Ruthann Richards, Linda L. Speakman-Yerick, and William “Wes” Wesley and Amelia Frehse.
A $1,000 one-time payment awarded to the top 3 high school seniors who live in Noble County currently enrolled in Central Noble, Churubusco, East Noble, and West Noble who has shown strong community involvement, has been active in various volunteer committees, and has participated in any school-sponsored sports all four years of high school. Preference to top 3 students closest to 3.55 GPA.
Noble County Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship in memory of Deceased Teachers – Awards $500 one-time, must be enrolled in a certified 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-year Indiana post-high-school program. This scholarship rotates each year between Central Noble, East Noble and West Noble.
Rotation cycle: 2024 Central Noble, 2025 East Noble, 2026 West Noble, 2027 Central, 2029 East.
Pelikan – Paul Pelikan Memorial Scholarship – For an East Noble High School senior or graduate who has demonstrated great effort to achieve and overcome adversity with preference given to educationally challenged students. Award of $4,000 is applicable toward any post-secondary education. Essay question required on application.
Price – Susan A. Price Memorial Scholarship – Awards $2,000 a year for four years for a West Noble High School senior female attending a 4-year college or university. Preference will be given to female students attending Indiana University Bloomington or an Indiana University affiliate. Total $8,000.
Prickett – Hal Prickett Memorial Scholarship – Awards $1,000 one-time to student enrolled full-time at an accredited two-or four-year college/university or technical school. West Noble seniors or graduates.
P.U.L.S.E. Senior Scholarship – Awards $1,000 to Noble County high school seniors who are P.U.L.S.E. of Noble County members and are pursuing a post high school education.
Rehwinkel – Hilda H. Rehwinkel Scholarship – Awards $250, must be pursuing a career in nursing or a related health education field.
Replogle – Brandon A. Replogle “Celebrate the Arts” Memorial Scholarship – Awards $2,000 for tuition only to attending a two- or four- year post-secondary institution who has been an active member and participant of West Noble High School’s Theater 33 for a minimum of two years or active art student for 2 years. In addition, the recipient must have the equivalent of 6 months of work experience during high school. It is preferred applicants have a cumulative GPA of 3.00-3.65 at the time they submit their application. Preference will be given to the applicant closest to the 3.65 GPA.
Roesler – Max and Elizabeth Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship is to assist non-traditional students already enrolled in a or beginning college, university, or trade school program, re-training due to changes in the workplace, or who desires to better their life through additional educational opportunities. Applicant may be a full time or part time student. Applicant should be 25 years or older at time of application. Applicants must be a current resident of Noble County, Indiana. Applicant may reapply. Awards $1,500
Robinson –John E. and Joan E. Scholarship – In memory of their son, Bill Robinson.
A one-time scholarship of up to $1,400 for residents of Noble County who are high school seniors (in particular students at Central Noble, Churubusco, East Noble and West Noble schools) pursuing any sort of post high school education.
Seymoure – Fred and Mildred Seymoure (Young) Memorial Scholarship – Awards $750 one-time, to a Central Noble High School senior or graduate or a person living in the Albion area pursuing a BS or MS education degree (teaching elementary or high school).
Schermerhorn – John and Mary Schermerhorn Memorial Scholarship – Awards $500 one-time, must be pursuing a career in an agriculture-related field.
Schlemmer – Chuck Schlemmer Memorial Scholarship College – Awards $1,000 one-time to a West Noble High School graduate attending a 4-year public college or university with a college GPA of 3.00 or higher. Preference will be given in the follow order to students pursuing the field of study of social studies (or anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, sociology) or those completing at least one season of cross country or track.
Schlemmer – Chuck Schlemmer Memorial Scholarship – For a West Noble High School senior attending a 4-year public college or university with a high school GPA of 3.00 to 3.85. Preference will be given in the follow order to students pursuing the field of study of social studies (or anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, sociology) or those completing at least one season of cross country or track. Awards $1,000.
Schumaker – Nathan Shumaker Memorial Scholarship – For a student from Noble County in the second or subsequent year of college (post high-school) education who received some or all of K-12 schooling through home school or a Christian School. One-time payment of about $250.
Slater – Jonah W. Slater Memorial Scholarship – For a resident of Noble County who is pursuing any sort of post-secondary education. Pays $500 one time for the fall. Note: This scholarship is offered in the even years.
Shields – Lauren Kay Shields Scholarship – Awards two $500 scholarships to West Noble High School seniors who demonstrate a commitment to community service/volunteer work in the application and plan to pursue any form of post-high-school education. (cfnc) A one-time award.
Smith – Dave Smith Memorial Scholarship – Awards up to $1,000 one-time to an East Noble High School senior pursuing a four-year degree, with a GPA of 2.50 – 3.50, who lettered in a varsity sport. Preference will be given to students with community service and volunteer activities.
Smith – Russell Smith Music Scholarship – Awards $1,500 one-time, must be pursuing advanced musical education.
Sneary – Max Sneary, M.D. Memorial Scholarship – Awards $2,500 one-time, must be pursuing a career in the medical field, preference to an East Noble student.
Smith – Cecil C. and Bettie I. Smith Scholarship – This is a 4-year renewable scholarship for three (3) East Noble High School seniors who are in the top 50% of their class. Students must be pursuing a teaching degree, accounting, or exercise science, prioritized in that order. Award amount will be $3,000 each year for four years. Students must continue to pursue the field of study as indicated (and not change) and maintain a 3.00 GPA while in college and submit required paperwork to the CFNC to receive continued award payments.
Smith – Talia Joy Smith Pursue Your JOY Scholarship – For an East Noble High School senior who is pursuing a four-year degree in the fall. The ENHS student must have participated in show choir and /or theatre for at least 2 years during high school at East Noble. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Preference given to a student majoring in performing arts. FOR TUITON ONLY. Awards $2,000.
Stahl – Josh Stahl Scholarship – For a northeastern Indiana high school senior who will pursue four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, and who has been participating in cross country and/or track for at least two years. Pays $500 one-time. For tax exempt college expenses (tuition, fees, and books), excluding housing or transportation.
Stone – Susan Marie Stone Scholarship – Awards $4,000 per year for 4 years, ($16,000 total) toward educational expenses. Ongoing scholarship recipients should maintain a B average and be in good standing with college/university and exhibit good character. Requires annual transcript submission and letter of good standing from college/university Dean of Students via the scholarship portal.
Thompson – Jennie Thompson Scholarship – West Noble High School seniors pursuing aZ4-year degree at an accredited college, university, or trade/certification program with a GPA requirement: 2.50-3.50, with preference for students closest to a 3.00 GPA.
Tieman – Carol Ann Tieman Scholarship – Awards up to two $1,000 for a Central Noble High School seniors who will attend a four-year college or university in Indiana to study to become a teacher. Preference will be given to those who intend to study elementary education and teach at the elementary school level.
Tilghman – Linda Tilghman Healthcare Scholarship – Available to high school seniors who are attending the Primary Healthcare Program at Impact Institute. Applicants must plan to pursue a two- or four-year degree at an accredited institution leading to a career in healthcare, such as nursing, radiologic technology, surgical technology, respiratory therapy, dentistry, therapy (physical, occupational, speech), or physician assistant studies.
Throp – Chester A. and Bessie C. Throp Scholarship – For an East Noble High School senior who played a musical instrument in the East Noble High School Band. Awards $800 per year for two (2) years.
Treesh – Captain James M. Treesh Scholarship – Awards up to two $1,500 one-time for an East Noble High School senior or graduate who is pursuing any degree or certificate from any post high school college, university, trade or technical school. Applicant should have at least a 2.50 to 3.50 GPA, with preference to the student closest to a 3.00 GPA. Consideration given for previous military service or planned attendance at a military academy. Applicant may reapply during his/her college career.
Top Honors Scholarship – Awards $2,500 one-time to students who interview but do not receive the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.
Truelove – Hazel Brown Truelove Scholarship – Award $1,500 one-time, must be pursuing a 2- or 4- years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, and who anticipates either a major or minor in music or will be involved in a music program in their freshman year of college.
VanMeter – Dr. David and Alvena VanMeter Scholarship – For one (1) Central Noble High School senior entering a two- year or four- year college as a full-time student. Must have a high school GPA average of at least 3.50 or higher. Scholarship is given to a student who is pursuing a career in animal science, agriculture, nursing, medical or dental field, or physical health science prioritized in that order. Award will pay $1,500 one-time.
Wawaka Alumni Scholarship – For a graduating senior from West Noble High School residing in Elkhart Township, Noble County, Indiana who will be pursuing any kind of post high school education beginning in the Fall. Pays $1,000 one time.
Woolf – Clarence and Marie Woolf Scholarship – For an East Noble High School senior who will be attending a four-year bachelor’s program to pursue a career in the medical field. Must have a high school grade point average of 3.00 or better. Amount is for educational expenses only and varies with interest rates, but will be about $5,000 annually (in 2025, the payments will be $5,787.21 plus interest paid on the final payment) for four years. Interview required. ***Applications for those pursuing a “Career in the medical field” include those providing direct patient care including MD, DO, PA or any Nursing degree; others pursuing a career in human medical care will be considered including but not limited to the following fields: chiropractor, Radiation Therapy, Speech Therapy, dentistry, optometry. Recipients who desire to change their field of study should know by doing so, could affect their future award payments. Recipients should reach out to the Community Foundation to find out more information.
Zimmerman- Edward and Beverly Zimmerman Scholarship – For a West Noble High School senior attending a 2 or 4-year college or university with evidence of community service/volunteer involvement. Preference to students with a GPA of 2.50 to 3.00 and to those students pursuing the field of study in the following order of agriculture, education (teaching), social work, or accounting. Pays $1,000 one time.
Zuehsow – Trent Zuehsow Memorial Scholarship – Awards $2,500 one-time, must be pursuing a two or four-year college/university degree.

You must complete each Acceptance Form for each scholarship awarded so we may process payment to your college/university.
In order to complete the acceptance form(s) assigned to you please follow these steps:
1) Go to the following link https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=cfncs
(or you can find the link on the Community Foundation’s website www.CFNoble.org, click on the “Apply For a Scholarship” tab under Scholarships, in the middle of the page click on “Apply Now” tab under Scholarships to be directed to the above link). Log in to your account. If you need to change that information you can do so after you log in. If so, go to the upper right corner and edit your profile information.
4) Below your application you will see “Acceptance Form”. Click on the blue “Edit” link to the right of the form to access the Acceptance Form. Complete the form. You can save the form as often as you need but remember to submit on or before the date noted at the top of this form.
How Your Scholarship Award Can Be Used
Terms of Acceptance by the Educational Institution – These funds are to be used for tuition, books and academic fees for the educational benefit of the student(s) unless otherwise stated. Due to the charitable nature of our scholarship awards, funds may NOT be used for housing costs. Funds not used by the student for educational purposes within this academic year noted above should be refunded to the Community Foundation of Noble County by the educational institution.
Qualified Education Expenses – For purposes of the tuition and fees deduction, qualified education expenses are tuition and certain related expenses required for enrollment or attendance at an eligible educational institution. The Internal Revenue Service provides information about scholarships on their website at: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc421.html.
Eligible Educational Institution – An eligible educational institution is any college, university, vocational school, or other post-secondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. It includes virtually all accredited public, nonprofit, and proprietary (privately owned profit-making) post-secondary institutions.
Expenses That Don’t Qualify:
Qualified education expenses don’t include amounts paid for:
- Insurance;
- Medical expenses (including student health fees);
- Room and board;
- Transportation; or
- Similar personal, living, or family expenses.
This is true even if the amount must be paid to the institution as a condition of enrollment or attendance.
Scholarship Award Processing – Failure to submit the form by the due date could result in a delayed payment of your scholarship. Please contact me if you cannot submit by this due date. The scholarship award check cannot be issued until the acceptance form is received by the Community Foundation of Noble County. Payment to your college/university may take up to two weeks to process by the community foundation. The community foundation will not pay any late fees.
Thank You Card – A thank you card is encouraged to show your appreciation of this award. Your card may be sent to the Community Foundation of Noble County, Attn: Name of Scholarship, PO Box 210, 103 W. Third Street, Ligonier IN 46767. You may combine more than one card in the envelope.
Forfeiture of Scholarship Award – This scholarship award could be rescinded in any of the following circumstances:
The applicant no longer meets the scholarship qualifications.
The applicant is placed on academic and/or disciplinary probation.
The applicant does not enroll full-time (in some cases part-time is permissible) in a program for the semester in which the award is to be in effect.
If you decide not to use the scholarship(s) awarded, please mark the “I Decline” box on the Acceptance Form.
Deferment of Scholarship Award – In some circumstances, scholarships may be deferred for no longer than 1 year, but are intended for the upcoming school year noted above. Awardees who want to defer their scholarship must contact the Community Foundation of Noble County by phone and in writing stating why they wish to defer and when they intend to enroll. Your college must be willing to defer for the same time period.
Upcoming Scholarship Opportunities – Remember to check the community foundation’s website in late November each year to see if you qualify for other scholarships such as, but not limited to, the Oliver and Eleanor Ellenbecker Previous Award Scholarship, David O. Kile and Marjorie J. Kile Scholarship and others as they become available. You can reapply for some scholarships. Check the criteria for your scholarship or visit the scholarship page at our website www.CFNoble.org. You must complete the CFNC Main Application in addition to any named scholarships you are matched with.
