The purpose is to provide support to Sparta Township Trustee to maintain the Indian Village Cemetery.
Donor Fund Story:
This fund was established in 2009 by Indian Village Cemetery Association. Indian Village is a hamlet of history. Located south of Cromwell on S.R. 5 and nestled in a chain of lakes leading from Lake Wawasee to Knapp Lake. The cemetery sits on a hill near the local United Methodist Church and in an area the Miami Nation once called home more than 150 years ago. That is, until early settlers began to bury their dead there, which the Miami wouldn’t disturb with their presence. The cemetery has historic gravestones and land still available for future burials.
The township has invested about $5,500 of work over the past two years to renovate the cemetery, including clearing and covering its driveway in stone, relocating the cemetery’s metal sign to the front of the site and placing stones where there previously overgrown weeds. The purpose of this fund is to provide support to Sparta Township Trustee to maintain Indian Village Cemetery.
