To provide support to the Noble County Historical Society.
Donor Fund Story:
Providing necessary funds to the Noble County Historical Society in perpetuity as well as contributing to the county’s Community Foundation, the society decided to start a fund in 2000 with help from matching Lilly Endowment monies.
The society collects, preserves and interprets Noble County historic artifacts, documents and photographs that are housed in the Old Jail Museum in Albion. Built in 1876 as the county jail, the museum is an architectural gem in the classic Second Empire/Gothic Revival style with its two stories housing both the sheriff’s family and inmates until 1965. It is open for tours during the summer season.
Maintaining this building’s many updates and repairs is also made possible with our spendable portion of the endowment fund.
Donations to this endowment help with the upkeep and active preservation of this treasured building as well as all of its contents. The historical society and museum are the responsibility of a small group of dedicated volunteers to strive reflect the entire county’s history with information and important artifacts.
