Donor Fund Story:
Lauren Shields was born on June 3, 1991 at Goshen Hospital. She was raised in Ligonier, Indiana and attended West Noble Schools. Lauren was very thoughtful towards others and she put them before herself. She loved talking to people and listening to them as well. She was also loving and kind hearted. She was given the gift of discernment.
Lauren loved Jesus and wanted to share Him with others. She also wanted to become a teacher and find a cure for cancer.
Lauren was involved in her church and in her community. She loved to take care of the little kids at church, and she went to all the ball games and cheered them on.
Her parents cherish the memories that they were able to have with Lauren. Dave Shields, her father, states, “I love every memory of her, but if I have to pick, I would have to say her ability to know when someone needed a hug or just a kind word. Another would be her incredible smile. When you saw that your whole attitude changed.”
Some of Lauren’s goals for life included finding a cure for cancer. She also wanted to leave someone better than she found them.
Two of Lauren’s favorite Bible promises was Luke 1:37 “For nothing is impossible with God.” and Hebrews 13:5b “For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
Lauren appreciated Noble County because everyone was like family.
Lauren was diagnosed with glioblastoma (an aggressive brain tumor) in March of 2003. On January 20, 2004, Lauren passed away at her home. She was described as a butterfly by some, because of the beautiful life she led here on earth.
Mr. Shields states that she was “wise beyond her years.” He was always asked, “What college does Lauren attend on the weekends.” He describes her life as “Amazing! I know she was a blessing to all that met her.”
